Suspect Arrested After Allegedly Breaking into Island Park Residence, Assaulting Victim with Metal Crucifix

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Long Beach man for a burglary that occurred in Island Park at 12:40 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024.
According to detectives, a 45-year-old female victim called 911 to report that her boyfriend, a 50-year-old male victim was physically fighting with an unknown male inside of their apartment. During the altercation, the male victim sustained injuries from the defendant punching him in the face.
The defendant, James Becker, 39, of 315 E Chester Street also threatened the male victim with a metal crucifix and caused damage to the apartment by tearing the refrigerator out of the wall. The defendant fled the scene, but was located by police a short time later and placed under arrest. When police searched the defendant, they located two plastic bags containing a white powdery substance believed to be a controlled substance.
Subsequent to the arrest, defendant Becker was also charged for another burglary that occurred in Lido Beach on April 14, 2024.
Defendant James Becker is charged with Burglary 1st degree, Burglary 3rd degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, Menacing 2nd degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, Criminal Mischief 4th degree, and Criminal Contempt 2nd degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
