Police: Glen Oaks Man Arrested for Assauting Cop After Caught Sleeping in Car That Didn’t Belong to Him

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Glen Oaks man for an Assault that occurred on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 5:40 am in New Hyde Park.
According to detectives, Defendant Raul Veingolea, 20, 260-21 7th Avenue was observed entering a private lot located at 2044 Jericho Turnpike. Upon officer arrival, Defendant Veingolea was sleeping inside a gold Toyota sedan and attempted to flee the scene refusing to comply with multiple verbal commands from the officers. An officer sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as the defendant was violent and combative while resisting arrest.
The injured officer and Defendant Veingolea were transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation. Further investigation revealed that Defendant Veingolea damaged the roof of a 2022 Honda CR-V in the same private lot prior to police arrival.
Defendant Veingolea is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, Trespass and Resisting Arrest.  He will be arraigned on Monday, April 1, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
