NCPD Announces Third Arrest Made in Connection with Wild Road Rage Armed Robbery in New Cassel

The third squad reports the arrest of a third suspect in connection with a robbery that took place during a road rage incident that originally took place on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:15 p.m.
According to detectives, a 29-year-old male victim was cut off while operating his Hyundai four door sedan at the intersection of Garland Lane and Maplewood Drive. Two males exited the red Mitsubishi SUV that cut the victim off.
Luis Mario Matute, 20, of 271 Wright Street and Carlos Matute, 42, of 20 Maplewood Drive approached the victim while Luis Mario Matute pointed a black handgun at the victim. They demanded the victim exit his vehicle. Once the victim complied the two defendants began striking and kicking him. The two defendants then fled the scene and the victim returned to his home where he called police. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Defendant Carlos Matute was arrested a short time later.
Defendant Carlos Matute is charged with Robbery 1st degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Grand Larceny 3rd degree, Menacing 2nd and 3rd degree, and Assault 3rd degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
A third defendant, Luis Mario Matute, remained outstanding at the time, but on Sunday, March 31, the suspect was apprehended by Nassau County Police Officers. According to Detectives, Officers from the 3rd Precinct were on routine Patrol in the vicinity of E. Broadway in New Cassel when they recognized a vehicle associated with defendant Matute. Upon further investigation, defendant Matute was arrested without incident. Defendant Matute attempted to conceal his identity by giving a false name to Detectives.
Defendant Matute is charged with Robbery 1st degree, Menacing 2nd degree, Menacing 3rd degree, False Personation, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Grand Larceny 3rd degree, Assault 3rd degree, and an additional Criminal Contempt charge from an unrelated incident. He was arraigned on Monday, March 31, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
