The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that on Thursday, April 4, both directions of the Loop Parkway in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, will be closed between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., to facilitate the ongoing rehabilitation of the drawbridge over Long Creek.
Motorists should utilize the signed detour via the Long Beach Bridge (Long Beach Boulevard connecting the City of Long Beach and the Village of Island Park) for access between the Long Beach barrier island and Long Island’s mainland.
The electronic message signs near the bridge will display additional closure updates and information.
NYSDOT is also reminding motorists that the speed limit in this work zone has been lowered from 55 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour.
Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
