Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman decreed on Tuesday that all of the county’s flags will be flown at half-mast after Susan Giovanniello, a 19 year-old volunteer Glen Cove EMS worker, tragically died in the line of duty.
According to the Nassau County Fire Marshal, Giovanniello passed away Monday morning after her shift from “an unspecified medical condition.” Her passing has been ruled as a line of duty death.
A crowdfunding page has been started to assist the Giovanniello family with expenses.
County Executive Blakeman issued the following statement on Giovanniello’s passing, calling out the fallen First Responder for her dedication and selflessness.
“EMT Susan Giovanniello of the Glen Cove EMS Corps proudly served residents with distinction, putting the safety, health and well-being of others before her own. The City of Glen Cove and the County of Nassau is better because of her service. At my direction, all flags at Nassau County Buildings will be flown at half-staff in her honor.”
