Recently, Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilman Kevin LaValle stopped by the Patchogue Family YMCA to recognize The Long Island Fencers’ Club “Shine the Light” initiative.
This program provides children with hearing loss the opportunity to explore the Olympic sport of fencing. The Supervisor presented club co-founders Philip and Christina Daly with a proclamation declaring December 11, 2022 as Long Island Fencers’ Club Day in Brookhaven Town.
The “Shine the Light” brand was selected to highlight the abilities of people with hearing loss rather than their challenges. It is a 501c3 nonprofit fencing club dedicated to encouraging physical fitness, mental acuity, and social engagement through participation in the sport of Olympic fencing at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
The Long Island Fencers’ Club was co-founded by Philip and Christina Daly in September 2022. It is a premier Long Island fencing club with the United States Fencing Association (USA Fencing) and provides a professional educational atmosphere, no bullying, judgement free zone for students to discover the Olympic sport of fencing.
