Hallockville Museum Farm Hosts 41st Country Fair September 17 & 18

The North Fork will come alive with old-fashioned fun on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18, when Hallockville Museum Farm hosts its 41st Country Fair and Craft Show. Families are encouraged to “unplug” and enjoy a day at an authentic country fair, much as folks would have done a century ago, complete with wagon and pony rides, a food competition, a farmer’s market, homemade baked goods and handcrafted wares for sale. The festivities take place at Hallockville Museum Farm, a 28-acre preserved farm homestead listed on the National Register of Historic Places, located at 6038 Sound Avenue in Riverhead.

“The Hallockville Country Fair has been a North Fork tradition for more than four decades, and   this year we’re introducing new elements to add to the fun,” said Hallockville Executive Director Roberta Shoten. “Country Fair guests will be able to enjoy a wagon ride around our 28-acre farm, more children’s and family activities, such as a tug-of-war, a farmer’s market and live judging for our Second Annual Jam and Honey contest – with special guest judges.”

The Hallockville Country Fair is an authentic North Fork cultural experience that celebrates Long Island’s agricultural roots and brings to life the Long Island of days gone by. Fair-goers can view folk arts demonstrations and shop for handcrafted goods and home-baked treats. Docents will lead guided tours of historic homes at Hallockville and the expanded children’s area will offer a petting zoo, pony rides, lawn games and arts and crafts. Rounding out the Country Fair will be live music and offerings from six food and beverage vendors.

A panel of special guest judges will award the winners of the Second Annual Hallockville Jam and Honey Contest on Sunday at the Country Fair. Entries in the competition will be accepted through September 1. The Jam Contest is open to all Long Islanders who make their own preserves. The Honey Contest is open to individuals who own or manage hives on Long Island. Contestants must submit two, four-ounce, unlabeled jars of each product they are entering into  the competition. There is a $10 fee per entry and each one must be accompanied by a completed entry form, available at the Hallockville website or in-person at the Hallockville Museum Farm. Country Fair Schedule and Admission

The Hallockville Country Fair will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day, rain or shine. The schedule of specific events at the Country Fair is as follows:

Admission to the Hallockville Country Fair is $10 for individuals ages 3 and older, children 2 and younger are free;  and $35 for a family of two adults and two children. Pony rides, the petting zoo and the wagon rides are an additional charge. Families may purchase an $85 all-inclusive family pass that includes two adults, two children, two pony rides, admission to the petting zoo and an annual membership to Hallockville Museum Farm.
