Suozzi: Senate Refusal to Negotiate on COVID-19 Relief is Hurting Our Country

Share

Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY) released the following statement on House passage of the Heroes Act 2.0 and the Senate’s inaction to come to the table on meaningful negotiations for COVID-19 relief:

“Just this week, we have witnessed what happens when the Senate refuses to meaningfully negotiate with Democrats on COVID-19 relief. Disney has laid off 28,000 workers and United and American Airlines are set to lay off 32,000 workers. Everyday folks, local governments, and our small businesses need help. We need to go beyond partisanship and work together to find some common ground.

“House Democrats have expressed willingness to negotiate with Senate Republicans. The Heroes Act 2.0 is meant to bridge the gap, show Democrats want to cut a deal, and provide much needed relief to people, states, and local government. Both Democrats and Republicans must work together. Things are going to get much worse if there’s no action.”

Suozzi has remained committed to ensuring Democrats and Republicans work together on COVID-19 relief. Earlier this month, Suozzi and other members of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus unveiled a “march to common ground” framework to reignite negotiations between Democrats and Republicans on a COVID-19 relief package.
