Assemblyman Montesano Delivers Relief for American Water Customers

Share

Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,I-Glen Head) is pleased to announce he will be co-sponsoring a bill (A.9674) introduced by Assemblymember Charles D. Lavine (D-Plainview) to establish the North Shore Water Authority. This law will amend the public authorities law.

“For too long, residents of Long Island have been kept in a vice like grip by New York American Water,” said Montesano. “This is the first step in relieving those who have had costly and unfair charges imposed upon them by American Water. I am thrilled to bring some much-needed assistance to my fellow Long Islanders after calling upon the Nassau County District Attorney and New York’s Attorney General to address this issue since 2018 and fought the outrageous rates since 2017.”

In 2018, the Public Service Commission released a report on New York American Water (NYAW) due to the sky-high rates they were charging customers who had no alternative water suppliers. It was revealed that NYAW had made incorrect and misleading filings to the Office of Real Property Tax Services in addition to withholding information from the Public Service Commission during rate proceedings and providing deceptive statements during hearings.
