Applied DNA Sciences Inc. has obtained a $1 million order of SigNature DNA and information technology to trace cotton through the supply chain.
The Stony Brook-based company said it obtained the order for Pima cotton in the upcoming 2019 – 2020 season that begins in October.
The company’s DNA and technology will be used to tag, test and track the Pima cotton variety grown in the San Joaquin Valley, in California, that is sold under the PimaCott brand nationwide through Bed Bath & Beyond and online.
“We believe the SigNature T platform, combined with our partner’s high standards in supply chain quality practices, assure them brand protection and label-claim compliance for retailers and consumers,” Applied DNA CEO James Hayward said in a written statement.
Since 2014, including the cotton to be tagged with this order, more than 250 million pounds of cotton will have been marked with Applied DNA’s technology. More than 7,000 DNA tests have been conducted on cotton during the past five years, according to the company.
