King Kullen Supermarket Hewlett Location to Permanently Close Doors Amid Lease Dispute

Yet another King Kullen location will be closing their doors for business, this time being the supermarket chain’s Hewlett store, which will be going dark as of Thursday, May 21, according to reports.
Located at 1765 Peninsula Boulevard, the Hewlett food store – the closure of which was announced on Monday, April 20 – has been open for over 45 years.
The company noted that the reason for the closing is due to being unable to come to favorable terms with the building’s landlord, Elias Properties, for renewing their lease in the shopping center that they are situated within.
However, reports say that a representative for Elias Properties claim that no negotiations actually took place, with King Kullen instead deciding that they no longer wished to keep their Hewlett location open.
Hewlett King Kullen employees will be given the option to work at the chain’s remaining Long Island stores, which number over 20.
When the Hewlett store closes, it will represent the ninth King Kullen to shut its doors on the island since 2019.
