Josh Packaging Inc., a manufacturer of custom-printed flexible packaging solutions, is expanding operations in Hauppauge with the acquisition and renovation of a second facility. The company produces packaging for a wide range of consumer goods—including food, paper products, pet supplies, and cannabis—and supplies major national retailers such as BJ’s Wholesale Club, Stop & Shop, Target, and Walmart.
The $9.2 million project includes the purchase of a 32,340-square-foot building at 135 Ricefield Lane and renovations to the company’s existing facility at 245 Marcus Boulevard. With support from the Suffolk County IDA, the expansion will increase the company’s total space by more than 60%, allowing for enhanced conversion processes such as lamination, slitting, bagging, pouching, and Inno-Lok application, along with expanded warehousing of raw materials and finished goods.
Josh Packaging’s workforce has grown steadily over the past several years—from 36 employees in 2017 to 68 today. The company plans to create at least 10 new jobs in the next two years, with most roles offering an average salary of approximately $52,500 annually.
The business was originally founded by cousins Abe Golshirazian and Nejat Rahmani, who began manufacturing plastic bags in Brooklyn before moving operations to Oceanside and later to Hauppauge in 2008. Today, members of the second generation of the family play key roles in sales, operations, technology, and manufacturing.
How Suffolk County IDA helped Josh Packaging Inc:
- Sales Tax Exemption
- Mortgage Recording Tax Exemption
- Property Tax Abatements
These benefits were instrumental in helping the company pursue growth locally, especially as the company had considered relocating operations to other states such as New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or the Carolinas.
“We’re getting to the point where we need additional machinery, and to add this additional machinery, we need space,” said Josh Rahmani, Finance and Compliance Director of Josh Packaging Inc.
Josh Packaging continues to demonstrate their commitment to the region’s manufacturing landscape. The new facility is expected to bolster production capacity, warehousing, and overall operational efficiency.
No matter what size the business may be, the Suffolk IDA is equipped to provide the resources and expertise needed to take your business to the next level.
