King Quality Roofing and Siding, a Long Island-based contractor specializing in roofing, siding and windows, will donate and install a roof for a deserving veteran in Riverhead on July 2.
Located at 508 St. Johns Place, the new home is part of Habitat for Humanity of Long Island’s Veteran Build Program, which aims to address housing challenges faced by veterans and give them purpose and community. In June, more than 30 CEOs and executives from Long Island businesses came together to officially kick off the project, raising the walls on the new construction.
For David, the dedicated veteran and future homeowner, the new home will not only provide affordable housing but also enable him to take in and care for his younger brother Rock who has Down syndrome.
“My younger brother, Rock, who has Down syndrome, is unable to continue living with my sister. When I heard that she was thinking about moving him to a group home, I wanted to step in and care for him, but my studio apartment is far too small for two people,” said David. “I believe owning a Habitat home will give Rock and myself true stability for our senior years. The Town of Riverhead is a delightful community and a place I want to call home. To the sponsors and volunteers, what can I say that expresses the overwhelming gratitude that brings tears to my eyes? I can only say thank you.”
The roof marks the second donation by King Quality in Riverhead this year. This partnership with Habitat Long Island is the latest initiative by King Quality Cares, a philanthropic program that helps, supports and raises awareness of the important work done by charities and community organizations across Long Island.
“At King Quality, we are deeply honored to join Habitat Long Island in providing a safe, affordable home for David and his brother Rock. Donating this roof is one small way we can show our gratitude to David for his service to our country,” said King Quality CEO Jeff Brett. “Our heartfelt thanks go out to Habitat Long Island and all those involved in making this home a reality.”
Habitat for Humanity of Long Island’s mission is to strengthen communities by providing quality, affordable homes and giving a “hand up” to lower income families on Long Island. David will complete 300 hours of “sweat equity,” contributing to the construction of his own home as well as homes for other future Habitat homeowners. Additionally, David will receive financial preparation classes, volunteer for community service, and sign a 30-year mortgage at an affordable interest rate, with Habitat for Humanity of Long Island holding a second mortgage.
The donated roof incorporates the same high-quality, seven-part roofing system used by King Quality in its standard roofing installations. King Quality along with its manufacturers, GAF and Westlake Royal Siding, are donating the roofing and siding.
