Today, Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) released the following statement after securing $1 million in federal funding for the Village of Southampton’s Sewer System Installation.
“After engaging with community leaders and listening to their insights on the pressing needs of Southampton Village, securing funding to centralize its sewer system became a top priority. I am proud to have played a role in securing critical federal funding for this endeavor,” stated LaLota. “This new system will not only safeguard our environment but also significantly enhance the daily lives of Southampton residents. As I’ve consistently emphasized, my commitment lies in securing funding that directly benefits the people of Suffolk County. I extend my appreciation to Mayor Manger for his unwavering advocacy on behalf of Southampton residents, and I am eager to continue our collaborative efforts to deliver positive outcomes for our mutual constituents.”

Background:
Funding for this project will allow for the installation of a new sewer system to collect, treat, and dispose of sewage from the Village’s downtown area. Currently, the Village has no centralized sewer collection system. The new system will alleviate the environmental impact associated with the deterioration of on-site wastewater systems and will foster future economic revitalization. The proposed sewer service area is projected to include 254 parcels and the system is designed to accommodate a projected flow of 198,330 gallons per day (gpd).
The Village of Southampton’s funding is provided by the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill, which was signed into law in March.
Last week, LaLota announced $1.5 million in federal funding for the Suffolk County Water Authority’s Westhampton Water Main Extension project.
