The Fifth Squad reports the Arrest of two individuals for an Elder Scam that occurred at 1:30pm on Monday, March 18, 2024 in Valley Stream.
According to Detectives, on Saturday, March 16, 2024, the male victim, 67, having technical issues with his computer went online to find a phone number for customer service The tech support number and representative advised the victim of suspicious activity on his bank account and requested $32,500 in cash to correct the problem The victim went to his bank and was informed by representative that he was in fact being scammed; he contacted Police.
The fraudulent representative ‘Joshua Matthews’ contacted the victim requesting photos of the money and stated a second representative will come to his home to pick up the money The Detectives investigation resulted in the arrest of Weixu Huang, 43, of 62 E. Broadway New York, NY and Yongmei You, 41, of 535 56th Street Brooklyn, NY.
Defendants Weixu Huang and Yongmei You are each charged with one count of Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree. They were release on an appearance ticket returnable on Monday, April 8, 2024 in First District Court 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
