Nets Conclude NBA G League Winter Showcase With A Win Over Wolves

The Long Island Nets (9-7) the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the Iowa Wolves (6-10), 115-105 on Friday afternoon during the team’s final NBA G League Winter Showcase matchup at the Orange County Convention Center.

Brooklyn two-way guard Keon Johnson led the way for Long Island with a season-high 27 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block in 34 minutes. While on assignment with Long Island, Brooklyn center Noah Clowney posted his fifth double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds in addition to three assists, one steal and four blocks in 36 minutes. Long Island guard Kennedy Chandler notched his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 assists in 35 minutes. Additionally, Nets guard Kyler Edwards tallied his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds in 32 minutes.

Long Island jumped out to an early lead against Iowa in the first quarter, as they shot 45.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc. The Nets closed the first period ahead by seven, 32-25. Long Island’s momentum carried over into the second quarter, outscoring Iowa 35-30 in the quarter on 60.9 percent shooting from the field while outrebounding the Wolves 15-6. The Nets went into halftime ahead by 12, 67-55.

The Wolves attempted to claw back into the game during the third quarter, but the Nets remained steady. Long Island closed the period ahead by 10, 92-82. Long Island carried its effort into the final period of play, led by Brooklyn two-way guard Keon Johnson’s 11 points in the fourth quarter. The Nets went on to defeat the Wolves by 10, 115-105.

While on assignment with Iowa, Minnesota forward Josh Minott and Timberwolves two-way guard Daishen Nix recorded 21 points each in 31 and 38 minutes, respectively. Iowa guard Trevor Keels posted 15 points and four rebounds in 29 minutes.

Long Island will begin the regular season at home against Wisconsin on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 5 p.m. ET. Iowa will face College Park at home on Friday, Dec. 29, at 8 p.m. CT.
