LIBOR Contributes $8,000 to Local Community Programs in Celebration of GivingTuesday

Share

In honor of GivingTuesday, the Global Day of Giving, Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) contributed $8,000 to support community programs on Long Island. The contributions will be apportioned between Rebuilding Together Long Island (RTLI) and Island Harvest, aiding the holiday outreach initiatives of both organizations.

Leadership from LIBOR recently joined RTLI at its Farmingdale office to assemble holiday “goody bags” intended for all beneficiaries of RTLI’s services this year. These care packages, laden with essential home goods, serve as a lifeline for individuals and families lacking the financial or physical means to acquire these necessities independently.

RTLI is dedicated to restoring the homes of economically disadvantaged homeowners, including the elderly, disabled individuals, and single-parent families. Their mission ensures that these individuals can continue living with comfort, dignity, and independence. The organization’s committed team of 300 volunteers forms the backbone of their impactful services, all provided at no cost to the homeowner.

This donation marks the 17-year partnership between LIBOR and RTLI, encompassing a multitude of sponsorships and REALTOR® volunteer initiatives spanning the past two decades.

In another significant endeavor, LIBOR REALTOR® volunteers participated alongside Island Harvest at its Community Mobile Market in Greenlawn, NY, dedicating the day to distributing fresh food and products to hundreds of seniors, veterans, and food-insecure community members. This effort was part of LIBOR’s Annual REALTORS® Against Hunger (RAH) campaign, originally established in 2008 to combat hunger within our local communities. Through this ongoing campaign, REALTORS® across Long Island have raised funds, collected non-perishable food items, and heightened awareness to support those affected by hunger and poverty.

Island Harvest is Long Island’s largest hunger-relief organization with a mission to end hunger and reduce food waste in the region. A pivotal program within the organization is the Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign, which runs from November 1 to December 30, and encourages Long Islanders to donate all the items necessary to complete a traditional holiday meal. LIBOR’s contribution will aid Island Harvest in providing special holiday meals to more than 21,500 struggling families this year.

“Giving back, and caring for our Long Island community is not just an honor, it’s a responsibility. Long Island Board of REALTORS® is committed to standing beside our neighbors in their times of need,” said Gina Marie Bettenhauser, LIBOR President. “Partnering with Rebuilding Together and Island Harvest reflects our dedication to making a meaningful difference, one home, one meal at a time.”
