Woman Allegedly Discovers Severed Human Finger in Salad at NY Eatery, Files Lawsuit

A Connecticut woman is suing the restaurant chain Chop’t Creative Salad Company after claiming that she received a salad at the New York-based eatery that included a gruesomely unexpected piece of garnish: piece of the manager’s severed finger.
Allison Cozzi of Greenwich filed the lawsuit on Monday, which alleges that she purchased a salad at a Chop’t location in the Village of Mount Kisco in Westchester County on April 7 of this year. While she was eating it, the lawsuit alleges, she came to the sickening realization that “she was chewing on a portion of a human finger that had been mixed in to, and made a part of, the salad.”
The offending appendage, the suit says, belonged to the manager of the establishment, who had been chopping arugula and accidentally severed part of her left pointer finger; she was rushed to a local area hospital for treatment, but they contaminated arugula was nonetheless served to customers, among whom was Cozzi.
Reports indicate that Chop’t was fined $900 by the Westchester County Department of Health in connection with the incident.
Cozzi is seeking unspecified monetary damages, claiming in the lawsuit that after consuming the gross greens, she suffered numerous maladies including migraines, cognitive impairment, panic attacks, dizziness, nausea, and neck and shoulder pain.
Chop’t is a chain of fast casual restaurants with over 70 locations; it was founded in 2001, and serves salads, warm grain bowls, and sandwich wraps.
