NCPD: Two Busted During Westbury Traffic Stop in Possession of Cocaine, Illegal Firearm

The Third Squad reports the arrest of two men for an incident that occurred on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 10:06 pm in Westbury.
According to Detectives, Community Orientated Police Enforcement (COPE) officers observed a 2008 Nissan traveling eastbound on Old Country Road at a high rate of speed. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop at the intersection of Old Country Road and Kinkel Street.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the rear passenger, Carlos Alvarez, 43, of 2270 7th Street, East Meadow, was in possession of a white powdery substance believed to be Cocaine and was placed into police custody.
The front seat passenger, Farid Acosta, 30, of 11 Dayton Street, New Cassel, then attempted to flee the scene on foot. Officers were able to apprehend the subject in close vicinity and a loaded Kel- Tec handgun was recovered from the subject who was combative while resisting arrest.
While the officers were apprehending the front seat passenger the rear subject fled the scene on foot and was also apprehended by Third Precinct officers a short while later. The female operator of the vehicle was issued two Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations.
Defendant Acosta is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree.
Defendant Alvarez is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, Escape 2nd Degree and he had a warrant for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree.
They will both be arraigned on Friday, November 17, 2023 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
