On November 21, a serious fire caused extensive damage at 16.5-acre Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, the last remaining laboratory of Nikola Tesla, the globally famous inventor.
The historic facility is undergoing an assessment by engineers to determine the extent of fire-related damages and determine its next steps.
Plans had been advancing toward commencement of a $20-million restoration and redevelopment of the historic laboratory complex as an global innovation center, an educational facility, and a museum.
Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was the inventor of alternating current (AC) motor and many other innovations. AC electricity serves as the basis for the power grid system, which in turn allowed for the introduction of wi-fi, radio, remote controls, and robotics.
On November 28, a guided site tour and news briefing will take place at the fire-damaged Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe.
Attendees may survey the fire damage and will receive an engineering update on fire-related structural damage at the site.
