Closet Factory New York to Donate Bags to Local Children in Need through MERCY FIRST SYOSSET

Share

Did you know that children in transitional living situations, including foster care and those experiencing homelessness, often are forced to move using only a black plastic trash bag? Closet Factory New York believes that everyone deserves a place to put their stuff, and brought together clients with the community to make a change. Now, the company is donating hundreds of new, high-quality duffel bags/backpacks to Mercy First to help make positive change for children in our community.
WHAT: Closet Factory New York is donating hundreds of new, high-quality bags to local children in need. The donations were raised as part of the Closet Factory Cares Bags for Kids program, which brings together Closet Factory clients, friends and the community to help children in need feel valued and loved.
Closet Factory New York is working with MERCY FIRST, which delivers vital human services to children, families, adults and the community, providing them with necessary tools to achieve success. The social services agency will put the bags in the hands of children in need in a respectful, appropriate way that best benefits the child. While there, Closet Factory team members will meet the Directors of Development and donate the bags.
WHEN: Tuesday, November 28, 11:00 a.m. ET
WHERE: Mercy First – Syosset Location, 525 Convent Road, Syosset, New York 11791
WHO: Closet Factory New York staff will deliver the bags to the team at
Mercy First, who will ensure the donations get in the hands of children in need in an appropriate and respectful way that best benefits the children. They will meet with the directors of child development to deliver the donation.
WHY: Did you know that children in transitional living situations, including foster care and homelessness, often are forced to move using only a black plastic trash bag? Closet Factory believes that everyone deserves a place to put their stuff, and brought together clients with the community to make a change.

WHAT ELSE: Mercy First is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy / Hermanas de la Misericordia in 1894. Today Mercy First continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in New York City, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and across Long Island. Mercy First provides community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. They also provide short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children.
They have a school on their Syosset campus and the children that school there live there. Everyday Mercy First helps at risk individuals overcome enormous obstacles and re-imagine their futures. Visit their website at www.mercyfirst.org.
This is Closet Factory New York’s second donation from the Closet Factory Cares Bags for Kids program. Across the country, bags are being donated in the areas in which the donations were raised, allowing people to help children in their own communities. For every new project started by a Closet Factory client, a bag donation was generated, and improving the lives of more than 40,000 children annually.
