The Hudson Valley, NY home that inspired legendary Long Island singer Billy Joel to write his smash hit song “New York State of Mind” is currently on the market for a cool $2.5 million, according to a Sotheby’s International Realty listing.
The 4,288-square-foot residence, located at 26 Kings Road in Highland Falls, Orange County, had previously been the summer home of financier and investment banker JP Morgan, and boasts nine bedrooms, seven baths, and an adjacent 1,577-square-foot carriage house, all within viewing distance of the Hudson River.
According to Sotheby’s listing agent Jody Atkinson, Joel had arrived for a stay at the house when the property and its surroundings inspired him to pen the fan-favorite song “New York State of Mind,” which originally appeared on the album Turnstiles in 1976 and reflects his his pride in returning home to New York after having lived three years in Los Angeles.
“The second floor has two bedrooms and one bathroom,” the listing reads. “The larger of the rooms is where Billy Joel wrote his famous anthem for his beloved city, New York State of Mind.”
