Overnight Closures and New Traffic Pattern on the Long Island Expressway at Exit 48 in Oyster Bay, Nassau, Huntington, Suffolk

Share

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of upcoming overnight closures and a new traffic pattern beginning this month at Exit 48 (Round Swamp Road) on the Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495) in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, and Town of Huntington, Suffolk County, to facilitate a bridge deck renewal project.

During the nights of Monday, September 11, Tuesday, September 12, and Wednesday, September 13, both directions of the Expressway will be closed and traffic detoured onto the Service Road at Exit 48 between the hours of 10 p.m. at 5 a.m., weather dependent, to establish a new work zone and traffic pattern.

Starting on or about Wednesday, September 13, a new traffic pattern will be established with two travel lanes to the right of the work zone and one travel lane and the HOV lane to the left of the work zone. Motorists can only access Exit 48 via the two lanes to the right of the work zone.

For the safety of the highway workers and the traveling public, motorists are also advised that the work zone speed limit will be reduced to 45 MPH.

This pattern and speed reduction is expected to remain in place for approximately three months.

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones.  Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
