Oyster Bay High School has a new sheriff in town, as the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District announced on Monday, September 11 that Melissa Argaman has been appointed as the new principal of the learning institution just as the new 2023-24 school year is set to commence.

Argaman is succeeding the previous principal, Sharon Lasher, who retired in the middle of the 2022-23 school year; Argaman stepped in to fill her role as acting principal for the remainder of the year.

Officially appointed to her new post on September 7, Argaman has been with the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District since 2021, previously serving as supervisor of guidance before taking up the title of acting principal of the school upon Lasher’s retirement.

District officials noted that Argaman had a major hand in rising the graduation rate of Oyster Bay High School by over seven percentage points in a span of only two years while supervisor of guidance. She was also responsible for the formation of a special program for students struggling with their grades, played a supervisory role over the district’s middle and high school guidance counselors, and was Oyster Bay High’s National Honor Society advisor.

Prior to her time in Oyster Bay, Argaman was a guidance counselor in Queens and New Hyde Park. She possesses a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Oswego, a master’s degree in counseling from New York University, and a professional diploma in school district leadership from Stony Brook University.

“I am thrilled to be given the honor of being named principal,” Argaman said. “By working collaboratively with teachers, students, and families, I am confident that we can provide a first-rate educational experience for all our students.”
