20/20, the well-known television newsmagazine broadcast on ABC-TV, will be airing a new episode on Friday, September 8, which takes a look at the case of alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann, accused of murdering at least three women.
On Thursday, July 13, Heuermann – a long-time Massapequa Park resident – was arrested as a suspect in the Gilgo Beach case; he was charged the following day in the murders of three of “the Gilgo Four” victims: Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Costello. Authorities say he may have been involved with the deaths of additional victims connected to the case as well.
Friday’s 20/20 episode, entitled “Long Island Serial Killer,” is scheduled to air from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., with anchor Deborah Roberts taking an in-depth look into the investigation into the Gilgo Beach case that lead to Heuermann’s arrest, as well as to speaking with some of the main players responsible for handling it.
In addition, Roberts will also conduct on-camera interviews with family members of the victims, and footage will be aired from a 2022 interview that Heuermann participated in on a YouTube channel called “Bonjour Realty,” where he talked about how he started his Manhattan consulting business and his thoughts about dealing with the rules and regulations of NYC’s Department of Buildings.
The 20/20 episode “Long Island Serial Killer” airs Friday, September 8, at 9 p.m.
