Mastic Man Sentenced to 13 Years for Criminal Weapons Possession after Guilty Verdict

Share

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Tyriek Corbin, 24, of Mastic, was sentenced to 13 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision after he was found guilty after a jury trial for his involvement in a shooting incident in August 2022.
“The fact that this defendant fired shots on a residential street following a discussion about the search for a lost puppy, is incomprehensible and will not be tolerated here in Suffolk County,” said District Attorney Tierney. “This defendant did not care who or what the shots of his illegal gun struck when he pulled the trigger. This defendant could have seriously injured or killed someone, and now will spend time in prison for his violent crime.”
The evidence at trial established that on August 14, 2022, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Corbin engaged in a verbal dispute with two individuals who were in a vehicle searching for a lost French Bulldog puppy on Lockwood Drive in Shirley.
The argument escalated to the point that Corbin briefly entered a residence on Lockwood Drive before returning with a loaded firearm, moments later.
Corbin then fired that loaded gun at the vehicle containing the two individuals who were searching for the lost puppy and fired the gun multiple times at the vehicle as the vehicle attempted to drive away, striking the vehicle three times. Nobody was injured during the shooting, however, the vehicle suffered ballistics damage.
Corbin was found guilty on April 11, 2023, of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony. The trial was heard before Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Timothy P. Mazzei.
On June 14, 2023, Judge Mazzei sentenced Corbin to 13 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. Corbin was represented by Kevin Maccarone, Esq.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Martha Duffy and William Richards of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau, with investigative assistance from Detective Adam Friedlander from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Seventh Squad, as well as District Attorney Investigators Michael Algieri, Daniel Crerend, and Jean Graf Mayer.
Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
