An historic exhibit about Long Island agriculture leaders, the Talmages of Baiting Hollow, and tractor pulls, hayrides, a kiddie train ride, a sawmill, blacksmith and antique engine displays are among the new additions to the 42nd Hallockville Country Fair, Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10 in Riverhead.
Roberta Shoten, executive director of Hallockville Museum Farm, announced today that Hallockville and its neighbor, the Long Island Antique Power Association (LIAPA), are working together to offer expanded Country Fair activities and entertainment. Hallockville Country Fair guests will be able to enjoy the wide-range of Country Fair offerings, from a petting zoo and craft demonstrations to sawmill and blacksmith presentations, happening throughout the grounds of Hallockville and at adjacent Long Island Antique Power Association, for one admission price of only $12 for individuals age 3 and older. Children age 2 and younger are free.
“We’re delighted that the Long Island Antique Power Association will be participating in the Country Fair. It’s a good fit, as the two organizations have similar missions; both are dedicated to honoring and sharing Long Island’s farming history and to preserving it for future generations,” said Ms. Shoten. “At the Country Fair, LIAPA exhibits and demonstrations will augment the historic North Fork rural life experience of Hallockville by showing the progression of machinery in Long Island farming.”
Hallockville Museum Farm is a 28-acre preserved North Fork farm homestead located on Sound Avenue in Riverhead, with 19 historic buildings, including a homestead listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. The Long Island Antique Power Association is located right next door to Hallockville. Here, LIAPA members preserve and maintain antique engines and equipment, host machine exhibits, demonstrations, and tractor and truck pulls.
Country Fair Activities and Schedule
The 42nd Hallockville Country Fair will feature more authentic North Fork farm fun than ever before. Highlights of the fair include a new exhibit, “The Talmages of Baiting Hollow: Leaders in Long Island Agriculture,” a quilt exhibit and sale, folk arts demonstrations, vendors selling handcrafted wares, pony rides, a petting zoo, live music, historic home tours, children’s games and activities, food and beverage trucks, tractor pulls, a hayride, sawmill and blacksmith demonstrations and much more.
The Country Fair takes place at Hallockville Museum Farm, 6038 Sound Avenue in Riverhead on September 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. Admission will be $12 for adults and children age 3 and older. Children age 2 and younger are free. Tickets may be purchased online at www.hallockville.org or at the fair. Pets are not permitted at Hallockville with the exception of service animals specifically trained to help a person with a disability.
