The Eighth Squad reports the arrest of a Uniondale man for a disturbance that occurred on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 12:30 pm in Hicksville.
According to detectives, a female victim, 34, had a verbal dispute with her boyfriend that escalated and became physical at the Days Inn located at 828 South Oyster Bay Road. Defendant Damar Collins, 36, of 692 Beck Street, grabbed the victim around her neck and obstructed her breathing while victim was holding their 1-year-old son. The defendant fled the scene and the victim notified police on Monday, July 17, 2023.
Officers escorted the victim to the location of the incident on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 for her safety. Upon arrival, defendant Damar Collins was present at the location and officers attempted to place him into custody. Officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as the defendant was violent and combative while resisting arrest.
Upon further investigation, defendant Collins was found to be in possession of a metal pipe containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.
Defendant Damar Collins is charged with two counts of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Resisting Arrest and Assault in the 2nd Degree. He was arraigned on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
