Cops: Arrests Made at Three Separate Nassau Delis for Use of Illegal Gambling Devices

Third Precinct Problem Oriented Police (POP) Officers report multiple arrests within the confines of the Third Precinct on Thursday, July 13, 2023.
Officers assigned to the POP Unit conducted an investigation targeting illegal gambling devices being used in various businesses. The following establishments were in possession of these devices:
  • JCA Express Deli – 480 Union Avenue, Westbury. A total of four (4) gambling machines were seized along with US currency. Defendant Julian Alvarenga, 60, of 615 Powells Lane, Westbury was arrested without incident.
  • Union Deli – 678 Union Avenue, New Cassel. A total of one (1) gambling machine was seized along with US currency. Defendant Yesenia Argentina Ortega Guevara, 37, of 4 Stanford Lane, Hicksville was arrested without incident.
  • La Frontera Deli and Mini Market – 427 Maple Avenue, Westbury. A total of three (3) gambling machines were seized along with US currency. Defendant Julio Vinas, 38, of 11 Cedar Road, Amityville was arrested without incident.
Defendant Alvarenga is charged with Possession of a Gambling Device, and Govern Licensee: On Premise Disorderly/Gambling. Defendant Ortega Guevara is charged with Possession of a Gambling Device, and Govern Licensee: On Premise Disorderly/Gambling and Manufacturing/Selling Alcoholic Beverages without a License. Defendant Vinas is charged with Possession of a Gambling Device, Violation Beer Sale Consumption Off Premise and Govern Licensee: On Premise Disorderly/Gambling.
They were each issued Appearance Tickets returnable to First District Court 99 Main Street, Hempstead on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
