The Arson Bomb Squad reports the details of a house fire that occurred on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 10:45 a.m. in New Cassel.
According to detectives, police responded to a 911 call for a house fire at 44 Division Avenue, New Cassel. The home was fully engulfed in flames and officers were informed that there was an elderly female inside.
The conditions prevented a search for the female victim until the fire was extinguished by Westbury Fire Department and multiple local departments.
The victim, Jaqueline Geffrard, 73, was pronounced at scene by a Nassau County Police Department Medic. One member of the Westbury Fire Department did sustain a burn to his hand while performing his duties.
Eight other occupants of the home were able to exit the home prior to police arrival. Nassau County Police Department Arson Bomb Squad and Nassau County Fire Marshall were also at the scene.
The fire is not considered suspicious at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
