Suffolk County SPCA Charges Sayville Man with Abandoning His Two Cats

Suffolk County SPCA Detectives have arrested a Sayville man and charged him with animal cruelty on June 26, 2023 after an investigation determined that he had abandoned his 2 cats and failed to provide them with food and water..
Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA said that SPCA officers responded to a store in Patchogue. The two felines, an orange tabby named Jack and a stripped tabby named Penny, were found at the rear of the store.
Matthew Halversen, 49, of Sayville, NY was charged with four counts of Misdemeanor Animal Cruelty. Halversen is due to appear in First District Court on July 14, 2023.
Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722.
