Authorities report that the dead body of a Humpback Whale was discovered floating in Shinnecock Bay in Southampton at approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Responding Southampton Town Police officers and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) staff towed the carcass out of the bay, with heavy equipment anticipated to arrive at the scene on Friday that will be used to drag it onto an adjacent beach.
Once secured on the beach, officials say they will preform a necropsy to determine the cause of death, after which the whale will be buried.
