A free women’s health patient education event – the 28th Breast/Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day – is being held Saturday, July 15, at Stonewalls Restaurant in Riverhead by the SASS-ARENA Foundation.
Frances Arena, MD, co-founder of SASS-ARENA and a medical oncologist at NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center will lead a panel discussion about the latest advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and related health issues.
Topics that will be covered include the following:
- comprehensive cancer services in Suffolk County
- advances in breast reconstruction techniques
- uro-gynecological issues related to hormonal therapy
- ovarian cancer screening, signs, and symptoms
- cancer risk for patients of color and those who are obese or have diabetes
- mammography rights for patients ages 30-35
- genetic screening
