White Shark Last Detected Off Long Island Now Headed East, Research Group Says

Share

OCEARCH, a shark research group, announced that the the tracking signal – also known as the “ping” – of Frosty, a 393 pound, a 9-foot, 2-inch White Shark of the Carcharodon Carcharias species, was previously detected off of the coast of Long Island on Saturday, May 13.
OCEARCH notes that since that detection, Frosty appears to be heading East, with new ping registering between Block Island and Martha’s Vineyard on Sunday, May 21, at 4:30 a.m.
The ping was detected south of Hampton Bays at approximately 10:15 p.m., OCEARCH noted. A ping occurs when the dorsal fin of a shark tagged with a tracking device emerges from the surface of the water.
The public can track Frosty’s movements via OCEARCH’s tracker by clicking here.
