The Major Case Bureau of the Nassau County Police Department is currently investigating a major grand larceny case that occurred between May 4, 2023 and May 11, 2023 in Seaford. According to the detectives in charge of the investigation, a 75-year-old woman was contacted by an unknown individual who claimed that she had won $6 million from Publisher Clearing House. However, the scammer told the victim that she needed to pay the taxes on her winnings before she could claim them.
The victim subsequently made several withdrawals from her bank account, totaling $136,300, and sent the money to a Florida address. Additionally, the victim also sent jewelry valued at approximately $90,000. Sadly, the victim never received her winnings, and the scammer disappeared with her hard-earned money and prized possessions.
The Nassau County Police Department is urging the community to be vigilant and to remain aware of potential scams or fraud. The detectives involved in this investigation are requesting anyone with information to come forward and contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
