A jury has found Nauman Hussain – the man who had rented out an unsafe limousine that would later crash north of Schoharie, NY and kill 20 people – guilty of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide on Wednesday.
On October 6, 2018, a stretch limousine crashed at the junction of New York state routes 30 and 30A. The crash killed 20, including the driver, all 17 passengers, and two pedestrians who were in a nearby parking lot.
The limousine had failed two inspections due to mechanical problems, including issue with its brakes; in addition, limo was only certified for 10 seats but had 18 installed, and the driver held inadequate qualifications for driving a vehicle with 15 or more passengers.
The crash was the deadliest transportation-related disaster in the country at the time it took place.
Hussain is due to be sentenced on May 31 at 9:30 a.m. Until that time, he will remain in the custody of the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office.
