Suffolk County Legislator Anker and her Chief of Staff Dorothy Cavalier presented Certificates of Appreciation to Suffolk County Cornell Cooperative Extension and New York Sea Grant, who hosted the New York Seafood Summit.
“An important part of our Long Island community is our fishing and marine industry,” said Legislator Anker. “Using and protecting local resources is essential to our marine health and economy.”
New York Sea Grant, in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension, industry, academic, and other professional seafood stakeholders, offers its annual “NY Seafood Summit.” The goal of the summit is to convene a group of enthusiastic professionals with vested interest in seafood to build active communications between the various sectors of New York’s seafood industry. Each year, at the summit aims to highlight some of New York’s bountiful seafood supply and introduce participants to the delicious, diverse, and versatile seafood available locally.
“NYSG was thrilled to work with partners, including Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County (CCE), on the 7th annual New York Seafood Summit. The event held in Riverhead was the final of three sessions held at venues across the state and focused on ‘Innovations in New York Fishing and Marketing’,” said NYSG Director Rebecca L. Shuford, Ph.D. “Dynamic presentations and dialog benefitted from the participation and perspectives of commercial fishing industry members, seafood retailers, extension specialists, county and state legislators, and other interested stakeholders – leading to forward looking ideas and recommendations for cross-sector collaborations in support of NY Seafood.”
