The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of a Bellerose Village man on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 8:00 am for a Homicide that occurred on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1:30 am in Bellerose Village.
According to Detectives, defendant Jacob Alvarenga Mejia, 28 of 249-72 Jericho Turnpike was at his home residence when he observed three males attempting to steal the wheel rims and tires from his parked 2023 Toyota Highlander.
The defendant walked outside with a large kitchen knife and stabbed one of the subjects, Luis Pena, 22, of the Bronx, multiple times in his upper torso before the subjects fled the scene.
The victim was transported by the other two subjects to a hospital in New York City where he was soon after pronounced by a physician.
After a thorough investigation was conducted with the assistance of the NYPD, Officers placed defendant Jacob Alvarenga Mejia under arrest on Thursday, May 25, 2023 without further incident.
Defendant Alvarenga Mejia is charged with Manslaughter 1st Degree and Assault 1st Degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, May 26, 2023 at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
