The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of the following overnight lane closures on the Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495) in Nassau and Suffolk Counties during the week of Monday, April 3:

  • On Tuesday, April 4, the westbound HOV, left and center lanes will be closed from 9:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. between Exit 46 (Sunnyside Boulevard) and Exit 44 (State Route 135) in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, to facilitate bridge maintenance. The westbound Northern State Parkway will be available as an alternate route.
  • On Thursday, April 6, the eastbound right and center lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., at Exit 62 (Suffolk County Route 97/Nicolls Road) in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, to facilitate bridge maintenance.
  • On Thursday, April 6, the westbound right lane between Exit 35 (Shelter Rock Road) and Exit 33 (Lakeville Road/Community Drive) in the Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County, the westbound entrance ramp from Shelter Rock Road, and the westbound exit ramp for Exit 34 (New Hyde Park Road) will be closed from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., to facilitate guiderail repairs and tree trimming.

All closures are weather dependent.

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
