Town of Islip Releases Original Documentary “The Blue Point Oyster”

Share

Oysters are known as “ecosystem engineers.” One adult Oyster can filter from 35-50 gallons per day. Unfortunately, hurricanes, pollution and overharvesting have challenged shellfish populations in the Great South Bay.
To combat this, the Town of Islip’s robust Bay Bottom Licensing Program generates millions of oysters and clams each year, helping to improve water quality and preserve our beloved environment.
Click on the video below to see the premiere of The Blue Point Oyster, a short documentary film that focuses on our Town’s commitment to enhancing shellfish production and improving water quality within the Great South Bay.
