An Islip woman is dead after her home was engulfed in flames, with “extreme clutter” impeding firefighters’ efforts to combat the blaze and rescue her, officials say.
The incident took place approximately 8 a.m. Friday when the Deer Park Fire Department was called to a residence on Boston Avenue. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered the home was complete ablaze, and that trash and debris associated with hoarding conditions interfered with their ability to extinguish the fire and look for occupants.
Firefighters eventually discovered a woman near the front enterance of the residence; she was transported to a local area hpspital where she later perished from her injuries.
The fire was put out within 90 minutes.
The victim’s name has not yet been released. Fire officials are investigating the incident.
