Queens Man in Custody After Intentionally Striking NCPD Officer with Vehicle, Officials Say

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Queens man for an Assault that occurred in Garden City Park.
According to Detectives, Officers responded to Jericho Turnpike and Sixth Avenue for a disturbance. Upon arrival Officers located the subject, Aasif Rasul, 22, of 9002 214th Street, who was sitting in a 2007 Jeep Liberty. Officers approached the vehicle on foot and the subject accelerated striking one of the officers and then fled the scene in his vehicle.
Officers canvassed the area and located the subject at Stewart Avenue and Lincoln Street. The subject accelerated towards a Nassau County Police Radio Motor Patrol (RMP) Vehicle and struck it head on. Officers were able to remove the subject from his vehicle and he was placed into police custody without further incident.
Two Nassau County officers and the defendant were removed to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
Subsequent to the investigation, it was determined that the defendant was having a verbal dispute with a 25-year-old female in his vehicle. The female was being restrained from exiting the vehicle but was eventually able to exit without any injuries.
Defendant Rasul is charged with Assault 1st Degree (Attempt), Assault 2nd Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd Degree and Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer 3rd Degree. He was arraigned at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
