Plori Greek Restaurant Opens in Carle Place

Share

Plori, a new Greek restaurant has opened in Carle Place replacing Italian eatery Cafe Formaggio. The space has been opened up and the decor is light, with a nautical feel of whites and natural wood giving the sense of a beachside village restaurant.

According to the owners, “plori” is the term for the prow (front) of the boat in Greek, and when villagers see the plori sailing back from the sea they knew good things were coming.

When you see the front of the menu at Plori, you get the same feeling – good things await you.

Appetizers start you off with Pikilia, assorted spreads including Tzatziki (cucumber, yogurt, and dill), Melitzanosalata (smoked eggplant), Taramosalata (carp roe caviar spread) served with toasted pita crisps ($17); Plori Crisps, thinly sliced zucchini and eggplant chips, citrus yogurt cream ($21); and Lobster Souvlaki with minted cucumber, tomato relish, triangle flat breads, creme fraiche tartar ($24), among others.

The fish menu includes Lavraki, loup de mer from the Aegean, lean white fish, mild and sweet, with moist tender flakes ($38 per lb.); Red Snapper from the Atlantic Ocean, white, moist and lean fish with a distinctive sweet flavor ($37 per lb.); and Black Sea Bass, a mid-Atlantic wild bass with mild flavor and flaky ($38 per lb.). There are other fish items on the menu.

They have plenty of seafood specials as well including Yiouvetsi Thalassinon, which is sautéed calamari, mussels, scallop, shrimp, white wine, aromatic cretan raki,  and orzo ($38); Htenia, Pan-Blackened Sea Scallops with arborio risotto, saffron, shiitake and oyster mushrooms ($42); and Kakavia, an Aegean bouillabaisse with sautéed lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels, Clams, calamari, and citrus saffron seafood tomato broth with toasted village bread ($45), among other seafood items.

On Yelp, Danilr A, from Mineola, gave it five stars.

“An absolute lovely experience,” Danilr wrote. A bit pricey but the food and service  justifies the price. Our server shabir made the experience an absolute pleasure. Thank you. Looking to do it again soon 2023 rather sooner than later.”

Kathleen M agreed.

“Plori has excellent service and a nice modern atmosphere,” she wrote.

Location: 307 Old Country Road, Carle Place, (516) 279-4762.
