James “Buster” Corley, 72, the co-founder of arcade and restaruant chain Dave & Busters, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Dallas on Monday, with authorities referring to his death as an apparent suicide.

Corley’s daughter Kate confirmed her father’s death in an interview, saying that he had suffered a stroke recently that had a greatly detrimental effect upon him.

“Buster Corley had a stroke four months ago that caused severe damage to the communication and personality part of his brain,” she said. “The family asks for privacy during this time.”

The first Dave & Buster’s was opened in Dallas in 1982 by Corley and his partner David Corriveau, who died at age 63 in 2015.

Each Dave & Buster’s has a full-service restaurant and a video arcade. As of October 2022, the company has 151 locations in the United States and two in Canada.
