Cookoo Rico Opens in Old Zorn’s Spot in Bellmore

Share

Cookoo Rico, a Portuguese chicken joint has opened in Bellmore, taking over the space where Zorn’s used to be. The menu features charcoal-fired barbeque chicken meals.

According to Newsday, the owners of Cookoo Rico are the same as kosher restaurant Chimichurri Charcoal Chicken with locations in Cedarhurst, Oceanside and Carle Place. (Cookoo Rico is not a kosher restaurant.)

On Yelp, Anthony P only gave it three stars but he’s hopeful that he will come to like it more.

“For now I have to give 3 stars. Upon walking in it was very confusing in where or how to order,” he write. “They have a nice display of food and people were gathering there to order. It took a little while for some people to realize you have to order at the register first.”

Rico said he will give them another shot.

“I will go back and try them again because the food is good,” he said. “Just hope the staff pays a little more attention to detail.”

Steve N, from Merrick, had a better experience and gave it five stars.

“This place is the real deal,” he said. “I ordered the 16pc Charcoal Dark Meat combo… it was really good. Sides are a must – my favorites are plantains, corn, Spanish rice, and beans. The Chimichurri and piri piri sauces are homemade and delicious!  Would definitely return.”

Location: 2495 Merrick Road, Bellmore, (516) 360-3060.
