Jim Tsunis Sr. a well-known Long Island businessman, philanthropist, and entrepreneur has passed away at the age of 94.
Tsunis – who died on Saturday at his home in St. James – was a jack of all trades in the Long Island business community, having been a developer of condominiums and apartments in addition to being a real estate broker, a restaurateur, a commercial property owner and manager and a manager of The Northwind Group, a real estate agency.
Tsunis was also a World War 2 veteran who, as a U.S. Marine, saw action in China, Guam, and Pearl Harbor.
Also known for his generous nature, Tsunis headed up numerous charitable endeavors such as The Pinter Tournament of Stars fundraising golf tournament – now known as The Long Island Charity Classic – and the Long Island Charities Foundation, which supported numerous deserving causes throughout Long Island for five decades.
He also belonged to multiple community organizations, such as the Harbor Hills Country Club, the Port Jefferson Elks Club, the Adelphi University Fund Raising Committee, the Centereach-Lake Grove Lions Club, and the Centereach Chamber of Commerce, among others.
