Village – The Soul of India opened recently in Hicksville serving up South Indian vegetarian cuisine. According to their website the new restaurant’s chef has over 20 years of experience, providing the same authentic flavors and spices as traditional south Indian dishes.

Their soup offerings include Rasam, a South Indian spiced Lentil soup ($4.95), Mulligatawny Soup, a Lentil thick soup with pepper and spices ($4.95), and Garden Soup, a mixed vegetables soup ($4.95). They also have Idly, a savoury rice cake like Masala Idly sauteed with Indian spices and herbs ($7.95) and Ghee fried Idly ($6.95).

People are raving about their Dosa, a South Indian crepe. They have plenty of varieties including Masala Dosa with mashed potato spices ($9.75), the Butter Sada Dosa, cooked with butter ($8.95), and the Gun Powder masala dosa, very spicy with chana dal/red chili and spices fried with potato ($9.95).

On Yelp, Janine C, from East Northport, gave Village the Soul of India five stars.

“Craving Dosa, we just tried Village-The Soul of India last night,” she wrote. “What a great new Vegetarian South/North Indian restaurant! We got to meet owner’s Sarvinder and Logo, who were so friendly, welcoming and attentive… They have an enormous menu that serves up not just Vegetarian Indian and Indo-Chinese cuisine, but also includes a large amount of Vegan and Jain options as well.”

Aditya N agreed.

“Great addition to Hicksville and probably the best dosas on Long Island,” Aditya wrote. “Try their Jiini dosa or Matka dosa, both great options. Very friendly staff and great service as well.”

Location: 11 West Marie Street, Hicksville, (516) 859-0057.
