Recently, , Suffolk County Legislator Nick Caracappa rolled up his sleeves and teamed up with the orange army from The Home Depot for a much needed rejuvenation of the Farmingville-Holtsville Veterans Memorial Park located at Leeds Blvd. and County Road 16 (Portion Rd.) in Farmingville.
“Today was truly an honor to be able to come together with such an amazing group of men and women to honor those who sacrificed their lives for our great nation,” said Legislator Caracappa. “Families will now be able to come to this park to reflect and remember their service or pay tribute to those brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Those that attended are as follows, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Director of the Suffolk County Veterans Agency Tom Ronayne, Executive Director of the Farmingville Residents Association Marisa Pizza, President of the Farmingville Historical Society BJ Intini, President of the Farmingville Hills Chamber of Commerce Michael Wentz and Commander of the VFW Post 400 Frank Sanzone. From the Selden Home Depot, District Manager Dawn Vanterpool, Store Manager Denise Luck, Home Depot Team Captain Chris Raimondi and Team Home Depot District Manager Chris Holden.
Some of the improvements included mulch, top soil, plantings, lighting, landscape edging, and a flagpole replacement of a pole that has been missing for nine years. The Home Depot donated all of the supplies. Breakfast was donated by Cella Bagels and lunch was donated by Café Amici. This event truly encompassed how many different levels of community can come together to instill that history will never be forgotten.
