Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a Uniondale man was sentenced today to 25 years in prison for brutally stabbing his 27-year-old housemate with a knife and dumping his body in garbage bags in front of a neighbor’s house in January 2021.
Oscar Rios-Perez, a/k/a/ Alexis Flores, 33, pleaded guilty on September 9, 2022, before Judge Terence Murphy to Manslaughter in the First Degree (a B violent felony). The defendant was sentenced today to 25 years in prison and five years post release supervision.
“Oscar Rios-Perez stabbed and killed his housemate, Jesus Martinez, and heartlessly bagged up his body and dropped it in front of a neighbor’s house,” said DA Donnelly. “The defendant tried to discard the evidence of his heinous crime and flee the state, but he couldn’t outrun law enforcement. Today’s sentence is a just outcome in this tragic story. Our thoughts continue to be with Jesus Martinez’s family at this time.”
DA Donnelly said on January 30, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m. at 17 Walton Avenue in Uniondale, the defendant stabbed 27-year-old Jesus Martinez, a co-tenant in the home that they shared, killing him. The defendant put the victim’s body into two garbage bags, carried the wrapped body to the front of the home, and left it on the curb in front of a neighbor’s house.
The defendant was arrested on February 22, 2021, at a bus terminal in Austin, Texas, by local authorities.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Litigation Counsel Tracy Keeton of the Homicide Bureau. The defendant is represented by William Shanahan, Esq.
