District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced a Hempstead man was sentenced to 19 years in prison for the stabbing death of a man in Brierley Park in Hempstead in March 2019.
Jose Ortiz-Trochez, 21, of Hempstead, pleaded guilty on February 23, 2022, before Judge Teresa Corrigan to Manslaughter in the First Degree (a B violent felony). The defendant was sentenced today to 19 years in prison and five years’ post-release supervision.
“We can never truly know what drove the defendant to take 34-year-old Juan Gabriel Chic-Sian’s life, but we do know that he will now spend many years in prison paying for his crime,” said DA Donnelly. “Any kind of violence on our streets and in our parks will not be tolerated. We will continue working with our partners at the Nassau County Police Department and other police departments throughout our cities, towns, and villages, to ensure that the perpetrators of violence in our communities are brought to justice.”
DA Donnelly said on March 28, 2019, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Ortiz-Trochez stabbed an acquaintance, Juan Gabriel Chic-Sian, once in the abdomen after an argument in Brierley Park in Hempstead.
Chic-Sian was taken to NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island where he was pronounced deceased.
Ortiz-Trochez was arrested on April 2, 2019, in Hempstead by the Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Litigation Counsel Nicole Aloise of the Homicide Bureau. The defendant is represented by Bob Schalk, Esq.
